I’ve been playing Minecraft for about three years, it was really just something for me to do when I’m not doing much. I don’t have a console and my phone was the only option. So I started with MCPE and just played and explored what I could.
I played with different seeds and tried to explore different areas. I’m terrified of mods, as I’m sure most folks are when they start off. I would toggle between peaceful and normal mode often. I never really played on my PC because 1) my computer is old (2012) so I wouldn’t have very good FPS, and 2) I wasn’t used to using my keyboard to do anything besides typing words.
Nowadays I play primarily on my laptop, I get motion sickness now when I play MCPE which is terrible because I love playing MCPE. But as just about every Minecraft player out there, I discovered Youtube Gaming and different YouTubers and found out that what I thought was hard to do, you can do the same things with just a bit of research and trial and error.
So I started getting more active, watching different series and found role play. Not that there is anything wrong with it, just not a huge fan. Practiced my parkour in a beginner map, practiced placing bridges and walking in between them. I did all this first before actually trying to login to any server or download additional maps.
It’s hard to play any online game in a third world country. I lived in American Samoa at the time. And I started actively playing on my laptop again around December 2016. I would watch different videos on youtube and try to practice different things on my own. I didn’t want to be a total noob before I even got on a server.
Maybe I’m overly prepared, but I just wanted to make use of my time. And also because getting online and finding a good ping was hard with slow internet. Our ISP at the time was the American Samoa Telecommunication Communication Authority (ASTCA). They recently rolled out a Fiber Optic plan using O3b satellite to provide faster broadband to its customers throughout the island. Our internet speeds went from 128Kbps – 256Kbps up to 256Kbps – 1MBps. I know what you’re thinking, that’s literally nothing, and it isn’t. Youtube worked more often than Netflix and other services. Ping to most servers was between 348 – 234 on average. FPS would never go higher than 20 depending on what time I was playing. I would have to play between 11 pm – 8 am to get decent ping to play on Hypixel Prototype Lobby, and Build Battle. Forget about other servers in different countries outside of the US.
The main reason I play is that I can do just about whatever I want. That’s a strong motivator to have the patience to learn new things and figure out how to install Forge and figure out mods and packs. I still haven’t figured it all out and I get so triggered when I parkour or die in Skywars because my PvP skills are non-existent.
I also play because it’s something I can do with my two older nephews. I share small videos I’ve made on MCPE through my Kindle Fire of rails and coasters for them to watch. I’m trying to get more into that on my desktop, but it’s slow going. And that’s okay, I have a goal in mind and eventually want to upload to youtube for them.
At the end of the day regardless of who it is for, Minecraft is just an extension of my creative brain to either just relax or sit at a cobble gen and think over my life in Skyblock. I hope to one day play with my nephews in different mini games or even just on a survival thing. The possibilities are endless when it comes to Minecraft that’s what makes it so awesome.
